About a year ago my husband and I got the idea to be a little more creative with our evening prayer time with our boys. We started going through the alphabet, one letter at a time. Each night our objective was to have our boys think of words to describe who God is and just how awesome He is according to that days letter. This proved to be an incredible time of praise and thanksgiving to our Great God and King!!
In honor of Thanksgiving this year, I cannot think of a more fitting thing to do than praise our Lord. Here is a partial list of what we came up with. We welcome any additions you may have.
A - Awesome, Alive, Almighty, Alpha, All in All, All-knowing, Amazing, Advocate, Author, Anchor,

Heart Work:
Spend time this week creating your own alphabet of attributes and adoration. Think on them, pray them, sing them, worship Him. Ask God to help your heart and mind respond to life's blessings and difficulties with praise and adoration of our God.
Heart Examination:
Why is praising God for who He is important? Why is thanksgiving vital to our Christian lives? When is it hardest for you to praise and give thanks to the Lord? What are you most thankful for this week?
Heart Changing Word:
Exodus 15:2 (NIV) "He is my God, and I will praise Him."
Deuteronomy 32:3 "Oh, praise the greatness of our God."
Psalm 63:4 "I will praise you as long as I live."
Psalm 92:1 "It is good to praise the Lord."
Psalm 103:1 "Praise the Lord, O my soul
Psalm 144:1 "Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
Psalm 145:21 "Let every creature praise His holy Name."
Psalm 95:2 "Let us come before Him with thanksgiving."
Hebrews 12:28 "Let us be thankful and so worship God."
Psalm 136:1 "Give thanks to the Lord for He is good."
Psalm 100:4 "Give thanks to Him and praise His Name."

I love this idea. Anything that has to do with using the alphabet to describe or remember seems to bring me joy. I didn't really read your list because I want to make my own first. But noticed you were stuck on Q.
ReplyDeleteQuintessential, Questioner, Quiet whispers, Our Quest,
Some of those might fit. Thank you for this awesome idea.
Thank you Carilyne, And, thank you for your "Q" ideas too! They're great!

ReplyDeleteToday as I began my devotion I thanked God for who he is and I sensed him ask me "Who am I?" I felt so limited and inadequate in describing him that I searched for words to help me express his magesty and greatness. Although we can never fully know the totality of God (this side of heaven), your list serves as a wonderful springboard of specific attributes to focus on during prayer and meditation.
Blessings and many thanks!
Thank you for your comment today. This tool has helped me too during times of prayer to really focus on the attributes of God. God bless you! Hester, ;)
